Was well enough today to go out and take photos and I can confirm that the import into Digikam of images from the SD card of my Nikon D90 is lightning fast compared to before! Even just loading the first preview of all the photos is noticeably faster.

Importing the 63 photos took only a minute or so, compared with tens of minutes previously.
