Funny you should say this, as my 1TB drives takes a few seconds as well in GNOME. If I remember correctly, recently there were some issues with USB. If I do this on my desktop which is a fresh install, I can't reproduce this, however my laptop which is a mess from hacking on it, probably isn't the best thing to try and reproduce on.

I will research a bit more and see if I can come up with anything. Thanks!
