Get with gocept and find out the command-line extractor they support. Christian showed it to me at Pycon. It is something in openoffice that doesn't do the fragile server-mode PyUNO. thing. It starts up pretty fast.
Once you find out from them the package, compare the text extracted by doctotext vs. this new thing, compare startup time, and compare complexity. Give a recommendation on switching to something supported.
