Bug Description

SVG print problem

Background
Computer used: MacBook Pro
System version: Mac OS X ver. 10.6.8
SVG version: 0.8.42

Printing on an HP LaserJet P1102w over a wireless network.

Problem
I have created a .svg document with a grid on an A4 sheet which covers much of the paper area. When I print it, the top 12 mm of the page fails to print and is left blank. Both sides and the bottom of the image print satisfactorily to within 4 mm of the paper edge. The problem does not arise if I save it as a .pdf document and print that (although the scale changes a little), so not a printer problem. Any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Not reproduced with
- Inkscape 0.48.2 (official package)
- OS X 10.7.2 Lion
- Brother HL-2035 B&W Laser printer

Both Inkscape's internal print command and printing a PDF version of the SVG file with Preview.app (print at scale 100%) produce identical printouts without cutting off the top 12mm.

Thanks for the trouble taken to check out the problem. I confess that I am still baffled; printing anything direct from Inkscape loses the top half inch. Saving to .pdf allows the full print-out of the whole sheet, as does printing of Open Office documents etc.

You might try testing an alternative printer driver if available for your model (it has helped in other reported printing problems on Mac OS X, e.g. bug #476059):

The workaround suggested earlier, using Preview from the printing page and printing from that, works. Prints the whole page with no missing top area. Seems strange, but it provides a way round the problem. How do I record that this problem is now ended? (I am not very conversant with the protocols - was born pre-war and have to struggle to keep up with the technology!)
