Bug Description
When moving the enpdoint node of a bezier curve, I often cannot see what is happening under it and have to deselect everything to see my changes and then try again. Sometimes a couple of iterations of this. If when you started moving (mousedown) the handle or node, they disappeared until you release (mouseup) they appear again--then you could fine tune it in one go and not have to iterate like I do now.

Please clarify "node handles" - do you mean the symbols of the nodes themselves or the handles of curved segments?
The handles can be turned on/off with 'Ctrl+H':
see Bug #324208 “Adding shortcut for 'Show the Bezier handles of selected nodes'”:
To show/hide the nodes themselves:
duplicate of or related to Bug #338441 “Hide/show nodes shortcut”?
