Bug Description
Each time inkscape is loaded the grow/shrink value for the paint bucket tool increases in size by ~1.25x, if you load inkscape several times then the paint bucket grow value can be very large and cause inkscape to crash is used without adjusting first.
Example values:
First load: 56 pt
Second load: 71 pt
Third load: 88 pt

Reproduced with Inkscape 0..48+devel r10207 on OS X 10.5.8 (i386)
Not reproduced with default 'px' units, but reproduced when changing the unit e.g. to 'pt'.
It appears that the units are not properly considered when writing/reading the value stored in the preferences.
A similar crash was reported in Bug #720699 in Inkscape: “Fill tool error. Inkscape crashes” - I'm not sure if the fix for bug #587769 only affects the allowed input values or caps the value read from the preferences, too.
