Requesting 64-bit Windows Build

Bug Description

The world is moving towards 64-bit, you'd be hard pressed to find a NEW 32-bit computer for sale. It would be awesome if someone could build it for 64-bit windows.

What would I need to know to build it myself? Would any of the code need to be rewritten? If not I may be able to TRY to build it for 64-bit windows.

Also I should note that one of the reasons I want a 64-bit build is because the current 32-bit build crashes on my PC after a while, no warning, it just crashes. But on the same version of Windows 7 on a 32-bit computer it runs fine and never crashes.

These crashes happen with Inkscape 0.47 or the current release 0.48? A major issue that caused 0.47 to crash after some time of use on Windows (32-bit as well as 64-bit) was fixed in 0.48 (Bug #221712 “GDI object leak in Pango hangs Inkscape after some time” <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/221712>).

Please consider filing a new report if you still see these random crashes with 0.48, and attach the crash report from Windows, and -- if possible -- the console messages (using inkscapec.exe from <http://kaioa.com/node/63>) or a backtrace (with gdb).

The request to provide 64-bit packages of Inkscape for Windows is a duplicate of
Bug #272778 “any chance of compiling a 64bit version?”

I don't know what is needed to compile Inkscape as 64-bit application using the current inkscape code base and the build&package method for windows as described on the wiki page <http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/Win32Port> (not using Windows myself), but I have read that it can be done with the current code base when cross-compiling (on linux), as mentioned in <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/520540/comments/5>. 64-bit packages are available for download from the site mentioned in that comment, but you'd have to figure out how to unpackage or transfer the packages into a windows-compatible format, I guess.
