Inkscape shouldn't crash any longer in your situation (as of rev. #9638). Instead it will print a warning on the command line and simply refuse snapping. I still am clueless about what's going on here; can you reproduce this?
Guides now snap correctly again to nodes and paths, please try rev. #9638
But what about the initial bug, i.e. snapping the rotation center?
