Correction: my previous comment wasn't precise: the difference appears to be limited to how start and end nodes are treated: in 0.47 duplicating either one adds the node as new start or end node and extends the path, whereas in current trunk, start and end node add the node in reverse path direction: extending the path at the start node and inserting a node before the end node of the path.

Another difference is how the handles are duplicated: in 0.47 the original and the duplicate have the same handles, in current trunk only one handle is duplicated and the segment between the original and the duplicate is a straight line (handles retracted).
