Can't draw a freehand or calligraphy dot

Bug Description

This may be related to https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/452174 but sufficiently different to warrant a new report I think.

Mainly affects tablet users. When drawing freehand or with calligraphy tool, there is no apparent way to draw a single dot. This is distracting when drawing/writing by hand.
With calligraphy, the path doesn't begin before some minimum distance is covered (and I can't see any setting to alter this?).
With freehand, a single click begins a line (and I can't see any way to override this?).

Pencil tool: Ctrl-Click creates dots. The default size (relative to the current stroke width) can be set in
 'Inkscape Preferences > Tools > Pencil:' Ctrl-click dot size [ ]
Pen tool: with both straight line segments modes you can create dots with Ctrl+click. Size can be set in the pencil tool preferences.

also described in the manual page

Ah, sorry. No idea how I missed that, spent ages looking for it too,
and even asked on the forum!

Thanks for your help!

Any thoughts on the calligraphy tool? There's a delay of a few pixels before beginning the path, which means you can't draw short dashes or dots, they have to be rendered as minimum length lines.

delayed beginning of path in calligraphic tool:
You don't mean the pencil tool (aka freehand, Shift+F6) bug #452174 “Draw freehand tool ignores first few nodes” (which is fixed in the devel version)? I don't see it with the calligraphic tool without tablet (0.47, osx), but vaguely remember having read an earlier report or comment about it related to tablet/pen usage (will search for it later tonight).
