I tried again and now it crashes just before but at zoom-level 198%...

I tried a couple more times now, and it seems to crash randomly, but almost after every time a zoom operation has been done.
I fired up Visual C++ 2008 and attached it to the process, and got the following:
"Unhandled exception at 0x68605637 in inkscape.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00050005."
The top row in the call stack is "libglib-2.0-0.dll!68605637()".

not reproduced with Inkscape 0.47 and 0.47+devel r9113 on OS X 10.5.8

Could you test whether the crash also happens if you remove the pattern fill from the path?

Removing the pattern fill from the object also removes the crash, yes.

Thank you for testing and reporting back. There is no other workaround known at the time for Inkscape 0.47, but as commented in bug #463602 the problem has been fixed in the new node tool for version 0.48.
