insufficient support for LaTeX

Bug Description

It would be nice, in a Microsoff Windows setting, to have a simple automatic way of generating a pstricks or pdftricks (preferably either) version of a diagram, complete with labelling in the font, size of the main LaTeX document.

Textext attempts to be a solution, but it does not quite work. Among the minor irritants, if one uses magnification which is about right, then the text is extremely hard to find, making it difficult to move it to the right place. But in any case, the font, and magnification, are not determined by the "mother" LaTeX file, a fatal impediment.

One possible solution to this, in the case of TexText would be to change the way this exports to tex (with pstricks) and use \rput().. or similar construct. The problem would be in cases where this is not desired...how to differentiate between the user wanting to save-as tex and have the result look as on the screen (with the screen's font size) and with the font size set by the "mother" TeX file....

Any ideas?

Yossi.

Hello,

I may try again, to see what I can do with your
suggestion. But I had more or less given up.
Producing an .eps file and getting the labels via
\psfrag works, certainly if one goes the dvips
route, and with much greater pain it can be made
to work with pdfLaTeX. The other solution is to
work in Unix, and to use the slightly antique but
effective Xfig.

Have you seen the Inkscape2Tikz extension yet? It will export Tikz code that, when embedded, uses the main documents font for text.

Perhaps this solves your problem: I have added an option to PDF/EPS/PS save dialog that does what is described here.
Please read this PDF document describing the new feature. It also includes text on how to automate this, such that you can tinker the image in inkscape, save it, rerun latex and have the image automatically exported to pdf/latex again, etc.

Hello,

Thank you for the information, and for all the
work! The solution is a little complex, and since
it does not involve psfrag, it will necessitate a
change of habits. But in the long run there
should be an improvement. Now I can download
Inkscape 0.48 with some feeling of security, at
least to one computer.
