There are other bugs concerning LaTex <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bugs?field.searchtext=LaTeX&search=Search> to be found - maybe you could spare some time and search if it's already reported? I don't use it and haven't installed any of the necessary helper applications, so I can't test the extension myself.

I propose to close this osx-specific bug as 'fixed' and (if nothing similar can be found in the bug database) to file a separate report concerning the LaTex render extension itself.
