Comment 2 for bug 231778

I have run into the same issue, and the checkbox button is a solution here (Document properties?). Moreover, it might be useful to have a checkerboard visible beneath all the content when the backgound is turned off or a background color transparency is set. Lots of graphics apps are using this stereotype so it will be easy to understand.
