    okay, I take that back, again. I am not able to detect the status of the output file from inside the Python code, because I do not know the file name. The Python code apparently writes to a temporary output file, not the final destination. So I cannot fix this crash that is caused by a read-only output file.
    I have confirmed that this type of crash is common to all the export routines that I am aware of that use Python extensions, so it is not unique to .dxf.
