    Thanks for the tip concerning Summa Winplot. I've installed Winplot and run a few comparisons using .dxf format files. As far as I can tell, the problem with .dxf files is in the rendering that Winplot uses.
    A typical .dxf spline curve consists of four points : a start point, 2 control points, and an end point. (where the start point may be inherited from the previous spline.) What Winplot appears to be doing is using the first three points to define a circular arc, and then using the last point as the end point of a straight-line segment, which starts at the third point. The final result bears no relationship to a Bezier spline.
    Interestingly enough, their treatment of .ai files does not suffer from this defect, so it should be quite easy for them to fix this.
    I will try to contact them to see if they would be interested in investigating this.
