Comment 32 for bug 187290

I've tried building a clean SVN 17979 with these patches and trying to do lots of stuff in the effects menu still results in a crash with no output using gdb, but I get this with inkcl

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'Glib::SpawnError'

I think this may be related to the newly registered bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/0.46.x/+bug/204779 - they're talking about an upstream problem with glib.
