OK, I wasn't thinking about Adrian's comment above... does this fully explain the differences between Printing via Cairo vs. Save as ps via Cairo? Vectors vs. Bitmap?

Adrian or Ishmal: have you built GTK+ with the patch? The readme in the GTK source directory seems designed to warn off the inexperienced (like me!). I am not even sure the guy who wrote the patch has compiled a patched version.
