Sorry for the delay in responding. Unfortunately, I can't try the patch because I don't compile the code myself, I run from the win32 nightly builds.
    However, I have been able to successfully avoid the crash as follows: When the print dialog comes up, click on Preferences, then click on Advanced, then click on Paper Size, then select a page size different from your default size, then go back to your original page size if you like, then click OK, and OK again, and Print.
    If I do this then I get no error messages and no crash and I get a printout which is 1/6 of the proper size, and also a black background.
