here is a "scatter" effect, derived from pathalongpath.py.

Notice that since no conversion to path is needed, the shapes, groups, clones, colors, gradients and so are all preserved :-)
It is a quick adapt from pathalongpath.py: no doubt it could be better done or optimized; however I think LPE will do that some day...

It uses "pathmodifier.py" that has to be adapted to the use of etree (see bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/182794)
