Originator: NO

Sorry, no. We are open to borrowing whatever is useful from CAD programs,
but any new features must be _discoverable_ and follow _the principle of
least surprise_. Your suggestion breaks both these requirements: it is very
hard to discover and can cause a lot of unpleasant surprises for newbies
who will run into it accidentally all the time. Besides, it is plain
inconvenient because often, I don't have the choice of the two directions
to drag, as I only have one side/corner of the object visible; I then start
dragging from that corner (whichever it is) and drag to the edge of the
screen which forces it to scroll so I eventually reach the other corner and
then release. I can see how the AI-style partial selection can be
convenient but if it works only in one direction, in this situation it
becomes useless because I can only drag over the object from its visible
corner. So, I stay convinced that a toolbar button and probably a shortcut
are a better switch for this mode.
