Node editing on more than one object

Bug Description

In my workflow, it's essential to be able to tweak
shapes accross multiple objects. If I'm unsatisfied
with how I've modelled a drawing that consists of
multiple overlapping obejcts, I need to select a group
of nodes using rubberband selection and move them around.

With inkscape, I'm forced to do this object by object
and it's almost impossible to achieve. Inkscape already
has object and layer locking to limit the effect on a
specific group of objects.

I agree! I wish one could select two objects (F1), then
switch to node-editing-tool (F2) and the simultaneously edit
the nodes of those objects that have been selected.

I agree as well. In Illustrator, when you use the direct selection tool
(like the node selection tool) you can select anchor points across numerous
objects. Unlike the commenter from 2006, I'd like to be able to do this
without having to pre-select the objects, rather, it should select all the
visible and non-locked nodes which are contained the area I selected. If I
*do* have objects already selected, then perhaps it should limit node
selection to the nodes within those objects.

I only wanted add a vote for this feature. I have used Illustrator for years now. Finally, Inkscape seems close (even close to better). This node editing capability is one I use extensively in Illustrator. It is probably the most used tool. In Illustrator, I commonly open up or condense areas of an illustration by cutting a rectangle through multiple objects, grabbing entire objects and parts others together. Hopefully this could work on the basic shapes and paths together. This feature would just be the common stretch feature of CAD tools. I've converted a few people to over Illustrator and I think I could convert a few to Inkscape now if this feature is added to complete Inkscape. It is a great program.

I'm setting this as "In Progress" since this is one of the features that the new node tool will have.

Assigning to myself. The tool is almost done, expect it to land in SVN shortly after we release 0.47.
