it's not just that gradients get messed up or displayed incorrectly, the hole document gets pixelized during pdf export.
unfortunately this also includes text. this affects print quality quite significantly if text gets rastered. (cmyk problem adds to that as well).
attached demo files (svg/pdf). best viewed with acroread (more zoom possible).
