Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.46, 0.47, 0.48.x and 0.48+devel r12168 (on OS X): Moving the focus to the font selector with 'Alt+X' [1] highlights the current font name, and allows to overtype it immediately.

@ScislaC - could you give more details about how to reproduce this bug?
