I am still having the same problem. I am using Linux.
PCLinuxOS with version 0.44 and libwmf 0.2.8.3

Clearly from what others have said, SOME wmf files open OK.
I still find it weird that the files I have preview OK, but
open wrongly. Also that they open perfectly in
OpenOffice.org.
