Very good idea!
Tested successfully on Xubuntu 16.04, with lp:inkscape rev. 15450 with a fixed patch (the original fails because the --tab option is not handled correctly in the Python code). Not only the dialog is smaller, but it also is clearer.
Proposing to commit to 0.93 and backport to 0.92.2 later.
