Comment 12 for bug 165521

I have the same problem with Inkscape 0.46 (Oct 24 2008) : Some font variants are not shown in the fonts selector.

I join 2 font sets :
+ Day Roman : a ttf font. Under Fontmatrix there is the "Day Roman" family with "Regular" and "Expert" variants. Under Inkscape there is only "Normal" and the faked Italic/Bold
+ Existence : a otf font but splited into several files. Under Fontmatrix there is the "Existence" family with "Light", "Stencil Light" and "Unicase Light". Under Inkscape there is only "Light" and the faked Italic/Bold
