Any specific reason not to upgrade to latest stable release (Inkscape 0.91)? Or - if you prefer to stick with (outdated) 0.48 - at least to upgrade to the latest bugfix release 0.48.5 of the 0.48.x series (won't help with this specific known issue though)?
