I'm still getting this in Inkscape 0.91 on Ubuntu 16.04. Since it works when the object only goes off one edge of the viewport and stops a bit beyond that, why cannot *all* edges of the viewport work the same way? Then this "Area is unbounded, cannot fill" would never happen.
