thanks for the links. It appears that the image produced by Inkscape 0.91 does actually contain some useful information, but there is a serious scaling/offset problem. The image contains some very large offsets such as the attached path:
       d="m -140696.05,-137466.07 0,13.04 9.52,0 0,-13.04 -9.52,0 z".
 Attached is a trial version obtained by selecting the image and manually dragging it back onto the page.
