A few releases ago, Microsoft managed to thoroughly break font management on Windows 10.
I spent a week trying to figure out what was wrong, sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't.
I use Font Explorer Pro X to manage fonts and all my fonts disappeared. The first sign that something was wrong, manifested itself as all of my Office apps crashing and reporting corruption and strange failure messages. The Microsoft troubleshooting process was not pretty. I still don't know what strange changes their engineers left on my system.

Eventually, I found the problem listed and a work around, FontCahe. I modified a registry entry to turn off the font cache.

As you may have surmised, this caused great grief around the world for everyone working in media.

Here is an ADOBE entry that tells you about it.
