thanks Jabiertxof - unfortunately I do not think I will be able to test it. Up to now I have always done my Inkscape work on Windows XP, 32 bit. However it is no longer possible to compile Inkscape trunk on a 32 bit machine, so I have stopped doing work on Inkscape. I do have a working version of 0.92.x branch which I am able to compile, but it appears that your patch is incompatible with 0.92.x. I got a number of failures of the patch command due to errors so I was not able to apply it.
    perhaps someone else could test this on trunk?
