sorry, I am getting a little confused here:
1. what is the difference between the patch you are proposing in comment 73 and the patch that was proposed by Tav at: http://inkscape.13.x6.nabble.com/Doc-scaling-compatibility-issue-Bug-1389723-tt4976911.html#a4976969

3. I have a practical problem in that I am no longer able to compile or test Inkscape code. My development machine was a 32 bit XP machine, and the 32 bit libs are currently not working.
