to properly implement this in the future, we will need some changes in the Inkscape C code to remember the initial rev number, and initial size of the document. A bare minimum requirement would be the three variables below:

   inkscape:version="0.48.5 r10040"
   width="210mm"
   height="297mm"

do we have a location to store the status of this work?
