Bug Description

This is a very small request, but still... in preferences -> steps, the "rotation snaps every" setting has a drop down menu, and the drop down menu is missing 5 degree, that is not an uncommon value at all.

So my question/request is : can 5 degrees be added? Even better, can it by made in a numerical input rather than a dropdown menu, so you cna input whatever value you want?

Thanks

- the first request, 5 degrees, should be easy to implement
- the second request, any value at all, is not feasible because the jump size must be chosen so that it divides perfectly into 360 degrees. In other words, 360/n must be an integer, where n is the jump size.

There's an older report already tracking this feature (bug #683055, with duplicate bug #684483).
@Alvin - should we close bug #683055 as 'Won't Fix'?

yes, I think that would be a good idea. I cannot think of any reason why anyone would ever want an increment that did not divide correctly into 360 degrees.

Hi guys. Thank for looking into this.

As far as I'm concerned, the 5 degrees snap is probably all I would need.

This said, is there a fundamental reason why the value _has_ to be an integer fraction of 360?
Even if it has to, if you want to make this setting more flexible and still retain the constrain of the number being an integer fraction of 360, you could leave it as a free-input field, that upon "enter" gets rounded to the closest "integer fraction of 360" (to some minimum step resolution... let's say .5 or .25?).

Just a suggestions...

... or let the user specify that integer >= 2 and <= 360 (I don't think having less than 1° tick makes sense) in a second field that gets synced with the combo text and vice versa...

Please move the discussion about proposals to implement a (constraint) numerical input for custom values of the rotation snap angle in bug #683055. This report tracks adding the the '5°' option to the current implementation (dropdown with preset values), thx.

This was the original bug report but bug 1744481 got marked as fixed, so closing as duplicate of that.
