Bug Description

Why can I not snap to 5 degree? 5 is one of the most common angle to work with, and the angles that are possible within 5 are 5, 10, 15, 20, 25,30,35,45,50,55,60.... Nothing more to say here.

I know it's not a bug fix, but - could this be backported? It's something nice and small :)

Backporting sounds straightforward.

We might want to consider replacing the hardcoded values with a combo box with entry though:
https://developer.gnome.org/gtkmm-tutorial/stable/sec-comboboxentry.html.en

I assume there will always be some number we did not add which somebody might find useful (it seems the present list is already a result of that ;-) )

YES! (had that idea, too, but thought it wasn't possible due to some restriction - so it does not really need to add up to 360 with an integer number of steps?)

I'm with the combo box idea. There might be people who might want to put in values other than what's listed.

Actually, I have a better idea, can we have such a combo box that it'll be easily accessible within Inkscape window without going into preference?

Can someone from the devs comment on the '360° needs to be divisible by the number' thing? Is that a hard requirement for some reason, or is it just there because it makes the most sense (I tend to agree, because that way, you have a way to return to a fixed state - but people who change it to something that doesn't fit might also be able to add the numbers up themselves....)

I think it should stay in the preferences. How often do you need to change that setting? The transform dialog provides a similar functionalty, hitting apply repeatedly makes 'steps'.

the value stored in the prefs is currently an integer that is "180°/angle" but it can be changed to a float, there are just 2 dozen places where to fix it.
