AFAICT opening remote relocations via GUI and CLI doesn't work for bitmap images (ok for SVG files):

This works:
$ inkscape https://inkscape.org/static/images/inkscape-logo.svg

This fails (console message: GdkPixbuf loader failed):
$ inkscape https://inkscape.org/static/images/inkscape-logo.png
