Bug Description

Hello there,
I believe I am reporting the same bug as Bug #1001454.

Windows 8.1, Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939 downloaded today. HP inkjet printer

BC-Proof-2.svg prints OK
Half the objects don't print on BC-Proof-1.svg
When BC-Proof-2.svg (i.e. file with native Inkscape format) is opened in IE all objects are visible and print OK.

Perhaps Inkscape aborts printing when it encounters an "invalid" svg?

Could you please test printing after these modifications?

1) add a new layer above the layer 'Artwork'.
2) select all 5 British flags and move them to the new layer
3) save under a new name
4) print

Possibly the issue is related to the clip-paths used in those flags (if above does have success, i would expect that only one the moved flags prints correctly, and the other four flags will get printed only partially).

As workaround, try saving a copy as PDF, and print the PDF with your preferred PDF viewer.

Wow! I am really impressed! Such a speedy and helpful response.

Hi SUV,

Thank you. You were right on all counts:

other four flags will get printed only partially

Yes, even the first one is a bit screwy, and the other 4 are really bad.

Perfect, thanks. The workaround is fine for me! I will sleep well tonight,
having had my bacon saved...

I owe you one, [?]

@JazzyNico - it seems that printing on Windows (directly to a printer, or e.g. to a virtual PDF printer (see also bug #1304289)) suffers similar issues with clip-paths as tracked for cairo-based PostScript output in
- Bug #813886 “Save as EPS or PS incomplete with cairo >= 1.10”

Any chance you could test printing such a file with a Windows build which uses a newer cairo version (>= 1.12)?

I would be very happy to do this, and to help in any other way.

Thanks for your help so far.

I confirm that printing works correctly with Cairo 1.12.8 (sorry, my archived tests with Cairo 1.12 are a bit old).
Test files attached.

Changed in inkscape:
status: New → Triaged
