You are completely right! I had in mind that 1.12.12 was tested working but reading again your comment #4 it was not.

Unfortunately, I have not found other cairo versions between 1.12.2 and 1.12.8 in repositories and for compiling it from source would take to much of my time. I'm sorry for that. So finally I installed 1.12.2 to be able to continue with my work I will be payed for. Actually there is not much I can contribute but I hope it was a little help reporting this issue.
