Bug Description
in the current version of Inkscape a transparent background is simply displayed as a white color. if you have white object on top of a transparent background it is however really hard to work with them. you can temporarily set the background color of the document to grey, black or any other color, but it would be much easier if Inkscape used a checkboard pattern like most other graphical tools do. an option in the application settings could be used to overwrite this behaviour and bring back the white background if that is preferred.
