SMSs not appearing in msg menu

In update 60 I am not seeing texts appearing in the messaging menu. I tested with texts from Skype and Rick Spencer. Neither number was in my address book, so I wonder if that was the cause.

I can confirm this as well on my side. Jono texted me from his phone from a # in my address book, messaging menu worked. He texted me from a number that was not in my address book, messaging menu did not work.

Sounds like the phone-app doesn't add messages to the messaging menu when the contact isn't in the address book.

Feel free to reassign this to indicator-messages if that's not the case.

I spent some time debugging this, as the behavior was very random: sometimes messages would appear, sometimes they wouldn't and at some point it would stop working at all.

I wrote a test application that would create a new entry in the menu every 500ms, and when trying to run it I got some memory errors in the indicator-messages-service:
*** Error in `/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/indicator-messages/indicator-messages-service': corrupted double-linked list: 0x001419b0 ***

and sometimes:

*** Error in `/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/indicator-messages/indicator-messages-service': malloc(): memory corruption (fast): 0x013b6ee8 ***

So, the steps to reproduce:

1) Compile and run this test program for the device: http://ubuntuone.com/3XTnbxnqU0U8SYuiIDFIYH
2) Start the indicator-messages-service manually (to see the printed messages)
3) run the test program.

Thanks for the test program, Gustavo. I'm not seeing the exact same messages that you see, but I'm getting crashes as well.

I've fixed two bugs last Friday that potentially corrupted the stack. When I apply those fixes, I don't see any errors or crashes. Can you please try if they work for you as well? They're both on lp:~larsu/indicator-messages/return-true-from-handlers, but should be in a release soon.

I tested with today's build (2 oct) and I had similar issue:
1. I can see the first 3 messages received in the messaging menu, any messages received after that doesn't show up - wouldn't have a clue what I missed :(
2. I can reply to a message from the messaging menu
3. I can also tap on a message to shortcut to messaging app to see the thread

But, I can only do 2 & 3 the first time, and then text don't send (even though I have typed the reply and becomes greyed out) in messaging menu nor can I go to the thread via shortcut icon anymore!

They are all saved contacts on my phone.

Going to go ahead and mark as Fixed Released in Saucy as I'm looking at it now, and the bug isn't in the changelog so it won't get done automatically.
