So, thostr_ noticed something I didn't :-P by looking at the indicator-location logs:

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::runtime_error'
  what(): org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.ubuntu.location.Service was not provided by any .service files
