I am suspecting that this bug is only occurring to people who have either:
(1) Upgraded from an earlier version of Ubuntu, using the update manager OR
(2) Installed onto a machine that already has a /home partition with configuration files/folders from a previous version's installation.
I haven't had the problem recur yet, since I installed 10.10 with a newly created home directory. However, it has only been a week since I've done this; the problem my recur yet.
