Comment 902 for bug 1

They dont include the codecs not because they are closed source but because you need to pay to include them. They are trying to get everything working, its just that they cant if the hardware developers dont release the full specifications. The new features are useful like 3g networking, 8.10 had a load of updates to gnome which they also had to get working. Bug fixing is done by the community so dont complain you fix some instead of wasting your time complaining.
