The reason there was not much progress was I could not figure out how to get changeset metadata without getting the changesets itself from HTTP repos. It seems that this actually isn't possible in mercurial.
A work around is to keep a copy of the repo, then it would be easy but not nearly as nice. I will get around to implementing this at some point in the not too distant future.
