no, it doesn't. and even if it would- i'd still consider it as a "bug" (well... like "paper-cut-like bug" not like something critical)- under other operating system (i'm thinking about MS's product) there is (usually) no need to unmount it /i.e. they mounts usb drives with 'sync' option- at least at xp sp2 and newer systems) that behaves in different way- although i do understand, that if something is popular doesn't make it wright, but Ubuntu is targeted to the less- technical people /well... tech savvy people can use it of course!/, and behavior mentioned by me would be a "surprise" /i.e. not copying files on usb even if nautilus indicates that they are copied- but in fact saving them during unmount/. at least making it configurable would be a nice option :)
