cannot "merge" tags

Binary package hint: shotwell

i have two tags, one is "Me", another one is "me". I'd like to merge them, to reduce clutter and find my photos quicker.
Another example is "Peter" and "Peter J.". Here i had "Peter", a year later i imported newer photos, and accidentally tagged them "Peter J".
I would like to be able to merge the two tags.

For the first case, we have plans to make tags case-insensitive: http://trac.yorba.org/ticket/2391

it would be nice to be able to decide, if i want to merge two similar objects or not.
Similar by how they are described in their metadata, tags, for example.

.. and "merge" meaning to group them, by unifying their tags, title or category names

Tried to find out how to merge 2 tags in shotwell and only found this bug (and the corresponding upstream bug).

Here's the workaround for as long as there is no direct support in shotwell:

Tag A and tag A_typo exist. I want all photos tagged A_typo to be tagged A instead.

I click on tag A_typo, select all photos containing this tag, add tag A to all selected photos.
Then, I right-click on A_typo and click on Delete in the pop-up menu.
