Bug Description

When you want to log in at startup and your password is "abc123" for example, num lock is not active so you need to press num lock or (on some keyboards, e.g. French) use shift and "123".
Num lock only activates when gnome is loaded.

There is no easy way to change this default behaviour.

Usually, the state of NumLock can be set in BIOS. Linux should not (by default) override this setting.to log in at startup and your password is "abc123" for example, verr num is not active so you need to press verr num or use shift and "123".
Verr num only activates when gnome is loaded.
It would be nice

When I want to activate Num lock key at GDM I must first install numlockx and edit gdm configuration file. It is not very user friendly.

it's actually configurable (see e.g. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NumLock )
but it requires heavy black magic (from the POV of the avg. user)
there should be an easy way to set this.
