Anything happening here?

Otherwise the website says you have to download and compile their app from source. Which most users dont' know how to do

Same here in Feb 2017, after upgrade to ubuntu 17.10, the anki sync doesn't work using the synaptic package manager version. However the version anki-2.0.47 from the anki website works well. I just uninstalled from the ubuntu package manager and installed the one from the website instead.

The currently supported releases, bionic, focal and hirsute, have either version 2.1.0 or 2.1.15 so more up-to-date than the versions mentioned above.

As neither Ubuntu 14.04 or 14.10 are not supported any more I'm closing this in order to tidy the list of outstanding Papercuts issues.
