Same problem here:
LOG:
echo: write: Bad file descriptor
gnumake: *** [info] Error 1

Regardless of:
- File extension given / or wo file extension
- Manually navigate to path
- resetting to defaults
- saving/loading project
etc.

So unfortunately Hugin 2010.4.0 is unusable ... :(
System: Mac OS X 10.5.8 on 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 4GB RAM
